Rice gruel is a traditional food widely enjoyed in Indian households for its simple preparation, mild taste, and comforting texture. Made by cooking rice in extra water until it becomes soft, rice gruel can be a suitable option for people who prefer light meals. Including Rice gruel for health in a balanced diet can provide energy and fluids while offering a familiar and versatile food choice. One of the main advantages of rice gruel is that it contains carbohydrates, which help supply energy for daily activities. Its soft consistency makes it easy to eat, particularly for people who have a reduced appetite or prefer gentle foods. Depending on the preparation method, rice gruel may also contribute to fluid intake. Rice gruel can be served with curd, buttermilk, or cooked vegetables to improve its nutritional variety. Adding suitable protein-rich foods can also help create a more balanced meal. The nutritional value depends on the type of rice used, the quantity consumed, and the ingredients added during preparation. Although rice gruel can be part of a healthy eating routine, it should not be considered a complete meal on its own because it may lack sufficient protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. People with diabetes should pay attention to portion sizes, as rice contains carbohydrates that can raise blood glucose levels. During diarrhoea or dehydration, rice gruel should not replace oral rehydration solution (ORS) when ORS is needed.
